My favorite family memory is when we all get together for Christmas. I like to see all my family. It is cold outside but it is good. We don't see our extended family very often and that why it's so special. I wish we could see our family more often though. What was your favorite tradition growing up?

I think that's a great idea to invite people over that have no where to go at Christmas. How did your parents come up with that tradition Barbra?

  1. Hi Jen,
My favourite tradition growing up was having all my siblings and their families home for Christmas. We always had a houseful of people with many laughs, presents and lots of food. It was a very busy time but I loved it. I do miss it very much. I haven’t seen all my family together in many years. We’re hoping to have a family reunion soon.

  2. I hope we can keep the tradition of having the extended family over for Christmas even though a lot of them are getting married and have other families to go to. Last year we went to uncle Sam's, do you remember? And then we had Gio and Eva and Alexi over the next night. It was fun. Dad

  3. I love getting together with the family. It is a chance to get caught up with what everyone is doing. I wish I had a chance to do that with my side of the family too.
I particularly loved Christmas when you children were young. It was so exciting for you and therefor for me.

  4. Hi Jen
We were the only ones in our family in B C for several years. There were young people working nearby and some retired folk too who didn't have family close by. My mom was famous for her cinnamon buns and sometimes she'd invite friends in when they were due to come out of the oven. We had friends over in the evenings or at holidays, winter and summer. Some brought a guitar, some played our old piano and we'd sing folk songs, it was fun! It was a special treat when our cousins and aunts and uncles could make the long trip for summer vacation or Christmas.

  5. I love Christmas. My husband and I usually have a friend or two to have Christmas dinner with us. Because we both don't have any family member here in Canada, we make sure to have someone who has no family in Canada to have dinner with us on Christmas day. It is very lonely to be alone during Christmas season. I hope this year we will have more than one person coming for Christmas dinner.

  6. Jen, sorry for not reply to anything for a while.
I am jealous of you to have siblings and many many more from extended families too. My dad is the only child and mom’s side didn’t have many. In Thailand, family members will try to get together in April between 13-15 which is a Thai New Year. We would travel to where parents live and stay for that period of time. Eating and catching up are most activities we do. Young ones would come to thé elders to ask for blessings or forgiveness. I have not done that over 18 year! That’s why I am jealous because you see everyone every Christmas!

  7. Christmas is a special time for family. I just wish people were not so busy chasing around and doing too much. Christmas is mainly a time for kids and for adults to make sure that the kids enjoy themselves in the proper spirit. Some of my best recent memories of Christmas is turkey dinners at your place with Gran and Old Uncle Peter.

  8. That sounds like a great time Jen. My favorite family tradition is Christmas as well, my family is Danish so every year my grandma makes a traditional danish meal and we play games she used to play when she lived in Denmark.
