questions and answers

Why don't a lot of people give to the poor uncle Nick? I think it's because we're selfish.

  1. Some people don't give to others even when they have a lot because of many reasons, Jen. Maybe they grew up very poor, so they become so afraid someday they will be poor again, so they become fearful for not having enough. Maybe they weren't taught to be generous by their parents, or maybe they never learn how to love one another by sharing or maybe as you said, they are just selfish. Whatever the reasons are the idea of keeping everything to ourselves is not good. I think by sharing our wealth with the needy is the best way to enrich our lives. Beside, giving feels so much better than receiving, not that receiving from others is bad, but because I had been on both ends, I prefer giving than receiving, Jen!

  2. Money isn't everything. Some people don't have much money so they give their time. Or they bake. Or they sing for old folks. There are so many ways to give. We need to consider how charitable people are, not just how much they give. And giving shouldn't be restricted to the poor. We all like to feel that we have been given to.

  3. Selfish works, so does miserly, skin flint, cheapskate; it is not the amount that is important, it is the idea, the personal reward for doing so, for helping others. I heartily concur with volunteered time but people should give as well of their financial resources in proportion to what they can afford. A little bit by a lot of people goes a long, long way. That is how Obama financed and won two presidential by the way! U. Nick
