questions and answers

Why didn't you finish the children's book Barbra? Did you have too many other things to do?

  1. I remember that I wrote quite a few chapters of the children's book and enjoyed the process very much. Then one day we had our friends over for dinner and one of them picked up my hand-written book, such as it was, and was reading it while I was cooking. I didn't notice until he looked up and said, "what's this?" with a puzzled expression.
I was so embarrassed! I didn't realize I'd left it out, and I hadn't wanted anyone to know I was writing. So I dosged the question and changed the subject!
I'd never known anyone in my family or friends who were interested in 'artsy' ideas, concepts, writing or anything. I felt I was really sticking my neck out every time I ventured into that realm, by sketching, or creating anything original. I was young and filled with lots of ideas, along with an underlying lack of confidence!
I don't know what I did with the book. Funny, now to think of how young I was and how afraid of the opinions of others I was.
I have a lot of respect for writers. They put it all out there and go public, and brace themselves as praises or criticisms come in. That's true for actors and other kinds of performers too. They'd have to be pretty thick skinned.
You're very brave Jen. And you don't mind sharing your ideas and opinions. Didn't you say you're writing a book? I'd like to read it some day. Are you still working on it?

  2. Jennifer has written several stories Barbara. She has a wonderful imagination so they are all fiction of course. Last week was a big event in Jennifer's life. She got her new wheelchair! Jennifer spends all her waking hours in her wheelchair so of course it is important that it be comfortable and function well. Her previous chair was malfunctioning and causing her a lot of pain. The best news about the new chair is that the new seating is making her back feel a lot better. So much so, that I was able to lift her into bed last night for the first time in many years instead of using the lift. Today we are going to go to church and give thanks to God for this miracle.

  4. Jen, I'm very thankful that your new chair helps your back pain ! You'll be so happy to be back in church too!
Now that your pain level is better, you can begin to feel well enough to follow your creative ideas and see where they lead. Again, I'm very happy for you.
