I learned how to paddle a canoe when I was 16. I was taught the J-stroke. It's a way of paddling only on one side of the canoe while still going in a straight line. I loved canoeing. It's so quiet, you see a lot of interesting things on a quiet lake. When I met my husband, I told him about canoeing, and we bought a wood-canvas canoe. It was pretty heavy, but we went out on some of the lakes around the lower mainland and enjoyed it a lot. I can see how the cramped space on a canoe would be very difficult for you Jen. Barbara
I remember that Jen. I think you were at the camp in Squamish. Isn't there a picture of you in a canoe in the nurse's room? That's pretty amazing that you were able to go in a canoe though. I remember the battery on your old vent wasn't very good so I'm not surprised that it failed. You were very adventuresome to do that! Dad
As your Dad said it was probably while at Camp Squamish. I remember Ryan doing outings to Alice Lake. I can imagine it was a pretty frightening experience even if you trusted those you were with. Imagine how scary it was for them too. They probably still talk about it! On Highway 91 heading south, there is a bump in the road just after going across the overpass and before the turn onto Highway 99. We all remember the day Ryan's trach popped off and we all freaked out. Little Olivia was in the back seat and put it back on to our relief. We remember that every time we go over that bump. It is an unspoken memory. I'm sure you have lots of thise too.

I haven’t canoed in years. These days I prefer paddle boarding when we are on the boat. It’s a great way to explore small coves.
