I started out working on the docks at April Point in Campbell River in 1973 when I was 15. I remember my Mum wasn't too happy about that because she thought I was too young, so I only did it for about a month. The next year when I was in Grade 11, I worked the whole summer as a junior guide. I really liked it because I was outside all day and got to meet lots of nice people from all over the world. There was one guy from Japan I remember who I nick named 'the coiled spring' because he was so good at catching fish. The were lots of other people I remember too. I think they liked me generally. It was challenging though when the fishing wasn't good because my job was to help them catch fish and they were paying a lot of money. I also had to get up before sunrise every day and I was busy until sunset. Dad

Wow...that was amazing, Geoff. You actually got paid doing something fun! Did you do fishing for salmon and halibut too?
