You can make lace by doing Bobbin lace. It is made by twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on bobbins to manage them. The weaving is held in place by pins on a lace pillow. The pins provide the pattern.
This painting does look like a beautiful piece of fine lace. I once sewed a gown of emerald green satin. Then I sewed a second gown of white lace and fit it right over top of the green gown. The green satin showed through all the open-work of the white lace. This was my high school graduation dress. The lace made it very special. You don't see very much lace being worn today, but it's very beautiful. My mother in law used to hand crochet lace tablecloths using fine crochet thread. She was very good at it. This was so time consuming and involved a lot of counting, to make sure the lace pattern came out right. I don't think many people hand-crochet lace anymore!
I'm not a very good dressmaker but my mom was. I grew up watching my mom, older siblings and cousins making beautiful dresses with lace etc. One of my cousins was an amazing "border" that's what we called in Indonesian for a person who does the lace-making. It was a sought after skill to have back then. But now, of course the robots are taking over the position. I do love wearing lace dress very much. Your art work is nice too, Jen.

Pretty interesting Jen. I didn't know that about lace. I bet you got that information from the internet. Good for you! I like your painting too. Dad
