nest

Birds lay their eggs in their nests. Chicks eat in nests.

  2. Nice a little nest that you have there, Jen. I hope you will have a little chick from a nice bird!

  3. But why did the chicken cross the road? Have you figured that out yet?

  4. I've already seen a pair of western bluebirds inspecting one of our bird houses. Another pair was also flying around. The winning pair stakes their claim by sitting on the roof and ducking, but holding their ground. I haven't seen them for about a week now. It's very early in the season here in Lake Country, too cold, but I guess they want to check out all the birdhouses before they make their choice. We have a lot of western bluebirds on this hill. So far the wrens usually end up nesting in this particular box. Wrens are small but particularly feisty. If another bird begins to build a nest in one of their preferred boxes, wrens will actually pull out the nesting material and then build their own. I've seen them chase chipmunks for a very long way because they strayed too close to the wren's box when they had chicks in it.
