Have you ever planted anything?

I am looking forward to planting a garden with dad. I want lots of different colored flowers in it. Have you ever planted anything?

  1. I'm with you Jen, lots and lots of colourful flowers!! You can never have too many, is my philosophy.
I have planted many in my life, and many vegetables too. I'm always amazed that a seed like a tiny spec, grows into a carrot, or lettuce, or how about a cherry pit that grows into an entire tree full of cherries - though they'll be wild cherries. It's an amazing feat of programming that has gone into each and every seed.
    Happy planting!

  2. Maybe Barbara can give us some advice what to put in your planter Jen, because she knows a lot more about flowers than I do. The planter is about one foot wide by four feet long and we want to put some annuals in. I was thinking about geraniums for height and petunias for droop. And maybe some lobelias in between. What do you think Barbara? Dad

  3. BTW, this is Jen's birthday present from me. It's going to be fun to watch everything grow because we have a very sunny spot!

  4. Great present Geoff. This garden will grow and change every day. The birds and bees and othe insects will come to live in it and be very thankful. Eautiful flowers will come and go throughout the summer. Most of the flowers in our garden are perrenials which come back year after year. We have a small vegetable garden and enjoy potataoes, beats, lettuce, radishes, and a few tomatoes. I look forward to seeing your garden. Your new sunglasses might help while you are out in the sun at your garden.

  5. Wow...that will be fun! Geraniums are very easy to grow and they come in many colors nowadays. I had red, orange, yellow and white at one time. How about gladiolas? Maybe they are a little too tall for a planter though. How about marigold, carnations, and even miniature rosebush? Have fun, Jen!

  6. That's a perfect mix Geoff. I'd add 2 bacopa. They'll trail over the front edge and down like a white waterfall. They look good with blue trailing lobelia.
